Programs
The Sabrina Dance Troupe consists of full-time and part-time artists dedicated to promoting Chinese culture and multiculturalism in Australia. Our artists specialise in different artistic disciplines, including traditional Asian dance, tai-chi and martial arts, and are available for performance bookings at community and corporate events and festivals. The Sabrina Dance Troupe also organises interactive cultural programs and workshops specifically designed for children and secondary school students.

Chinese Cultural & Dance Workshop Information
- Tai-Chi Martial Arts workshop: (Prep to Secondary School)
Tai Chi originated as a martial art, but these days it is recognised more as a Chinese system of gentle exercise. It is often characterised by controlled flowing movements designed to promote general fitness and health. This workshop consists of Tai-chi preparation, Tiger Fist, Push hand exercises, crane and snake exercises.
- Kung Fu Funk workshop: (Grade 4 to Secondary School)
Kung Fu is a type of self-defence that combines kicking, punching, grabbing, locking and several weapon-techniques. It has a graceful and dynamic hard-soft style, which emphasises agility, explosiveness and flexibility in combination with the surprise effect. In this innovative workshop, kids will learn the traditional martial art form, combined with hip hop modern steps.
- Lion Dance workshop: (Grade 4 to Secondary School)
In the dance component of the workshop, students will learn the teamwork, co-operation and rhythm necessary in lion dancing. They will learn the basic steps (running steps, crossing steps and the kicking leg exercise) and arm movements . Students will then have the opportunity to put these skills together to perform their dance, accompanied by instruments, as the conclusion to the workshop.
- Flag dance workshop: (Grade 4 to Secondary School)
Often used in acrobatic demonstrations, the flag dance shows the power and strength of handling and synchronizing flags as an art form. This dance combines martial arts and modern music to maintain the traditional dignity of carrying flags to battle.
- Ribbon workshop: (Prep to Grade 6)
The Ribbon Dance is one of the most traditional dances of China, and is more than 1200 years old. Kids will learn how to use colourful silk ribbons with modern Chinese music.
- Golden Hoop workshop: (Prep to Grade 6)
The Golden Hoop dance is based on the story of "Na Zha and the Dragon King". The main character of this story - Na Zha, was a special and powerful child born with a golden universe ring. In this workshop, kids will learn this special dance about Na Zha and his Golden Hoop, incorporating basic martial art movements.
- Flower fan workshop: ( Grade 4 to Grade 6)
The flower fan dance is traditionally performed at the rice harvest festival. In celebration of a good harvest, the happy townsfolk drink and sing and perform this beautiful dance.
- Chinese Drum Dance workshops: (Grade 3 to Secondary School)
The drum workshops teaches kids basic drum rhythms, in the following styles: Chinese flower drums, Waist drums, Tai Pei Drums, Hand drums, Big Drums and Medium drums.
